Smart digital Farming in potato farming: unlocking the potential of drone based hyperspectral imaging (en anglais)

Ruben Van De Vijver, Researcher - ILVO

In the last years, ILVO, in cooperation with its partners and the innovative business network has focused on unlocking the enormous potential of smart digital farming. The early detection of Alternaria solani in potato fields using hyperspectral imaging, is one of the specific topics which ILVO investigates. The challenge is to realize drone based alternaria detection, followed by smart digital mapping of the pathogen and thus execute precise, adjusted treatment. To allow this mapping, ILVO starts imaging work from a close range and high resolution perspective. This required building a semi-automated hyperspectral imaging robot. In 2017, low altitude drone flights were done on trial fields to acquire high quality imagery. The first – promising - data were collected. Come and see our presentation with results and forecasts of further possibilities and innovations.
