WALK IN SEMINARS

Innovation, engine for a sustainable potato growing Driving economical, ecological and social responsibility (in het Engels)

Veerle Mommaerts - Food Chain Manager & Marc Sneyders, Sustainable Operations Manager - BAYER

Consumers desire all year round access to high quality and tasty potatoes at a fair price. Up till now farmers together with their suppliers and the potato processors are successful to meet these consumer expectations. Nonetheless, today the toolbox to protect and grow potatoes in a sustainable way is decreasing due to the strict regulatory frame work in Europe and the ever increasing restrictions set by the food value chain to fulfil the growing demands of their consumers. New solutions and approaches are needed to coop with this changing market environment. More than ever a close cooperation between the suppliers, the farmers and the potato processors is a must. As a global leader of crop protection solutions, seeds and technology, Bayer is committed to invest in the agriculture of tomorrow through innovation. We strongly believe in a holistic approach: complementary crop solutions including chemical and biological crop protection products that are safely applied by farmers, combined with new technologies for an optimized, targeted application (e.g. digital solutions) to further minimize environmental impact and coop with the limited available farmland. Beyond this, we encourage knowledge sharing through partnerships with all actors along the food value chain to create value from farmer to consumer and as such build together a sustainable and consumer centric potato production.
